Lighting Urban Community International. LUCI

LUCI is a unique international network bringing together cities and lighting professionals (designers, academics, industrials..) to optimise and rationalise the use of light as a major tool for urban development as taking into account environmental issues and sustainable development.

Give the city light .... and life!

The trend is to “revitalise” our city environments – and lightning has shown itself to be an utmost effective, cost effective, and fast working method to tackle criminality, promote tourism, and develop the local business and to promote a local feeling of belonging and local pride. The city people light concept.

Manager Urban Segment Marketing - Prof Luminaires Europe, Philips Lighting

Lighting to revive an entire neighbourhood of the city centre

The Quartier des Spectacles in Montreal, Canada, has made lighting the emblem of urban renewal. priorities are to make people come from the city centre to have a good time and to encourage show groups to create activity. In the neighbourhood today, there are around 450 businesses related to shows (creation, production, promotion), as opposed to half that number two years ago; 2.5 million tickets were sold in 2007. This means that the question of the lifespan of the signature doesn’t worry us much, since it plays only a secondary role in our revitalization project.

Clément Demers,

General Secretary Partnership for the Quartier des Spectacles, Montreal, Canada

Glow – a local light festival with international perspectives

For the third successive time the center of Eindhoven will be the stage and podium for GLOW this autumn. From 7 to 16 November tens of works can be seen and experienced along the route, which are developed by artists and designers from home and abroad. This open air exhibition provides a fascinating spectacle of applied light art and design on landmarks and other unique locations in, what else, Holland’s City of Light! The combined action of light with art and design, applied by tens of national and international artists and designers of this size make GLOW a unique event in the Netherlands. On international level GLOW joins light festivals such as Lichtrouten (Ludenscheid), Vigileu (Barcelona), Le Festival Arbres et Lumières (Geneve), Radiance: The Glasgow Festival of Light (Glasgow) and Luzboa (Lissabon), Valon Voimat (Helsinki), ValgusFestival (Talinn), Ljudmila (Ljubljana).
